The Umbalköpfl is a 3426 m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks of the Tauern main ridge in the Venediger group in East Tyrol and Salzburg ( Austria ). It lies on the municipal boundary of Prägraten am Großvenediger and Krimml .
location
The Umbalköpfl is located on the Tauern main ridge in the northwest of the Lienz district and in the north of the municipality of Prägraten am Großvenediger . It has a rocky north face that drops steeply to the Krimmler Kees , while in the south the Umbalkees extends almost to the summit. The Umbalköpfl lies between the Dreiherrnspitze ( 3499 m above sea level ) in the west and the Simonyschneide ( 3440 m above sea level ) in the east, whereby the Simonyschneide is separated from the Umbalköpfl by the Umbalscharte ( 3371 m above sea level ). The Dreiherrnspitzesattel ( 3390 m above sea level ) lies between the Umbalköpfl and the Dreiherrnspitze . To the south of the Umbalköpfl lies the Umbaltal , to the northeast the Krimmler Achental and to the east the Maurertal .
Promotion opportunities
The Umbalköpfl is usually only done together with the Dreiherrnspitze or the Simonyschneide or the Simonyspitze . The normal route (southern ascent) on the Umbalköpfl leads from the Clarahütte via the Hintere Umbaltörl and the Umballkees from the southeast to Umballköpfl. Further possibilities are the westward ascent from the Dreiherrnspitzesattel or the eastward ascent from the Umbalscharte ( UIAA I ). The north face ( UIAA V- ), which was conquered for the first time on July 15, 1936 by H. Peterka and F. Knebl from the Warnsdorfer Hütte, presents a much greater challenge . The first ascent of the northeast face ( UIAA IV + ), which can also be climbed from the Warnsdorfer Hütte, was first achieved by K. Baumgartner and J. Lackner on July 19, 1926.
