Uni TV

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uni-TV (also: Uni-Fernsehen , Campus-TV or Studentenfernsehen ) channels are usually TV channels that emerge from voluntary student initiatives. The broadcasters obtain their budget from various sources. Usually they are financed by the general student committee of the respective educational establishment.

Background and spread

Most broadcasters broadcast the program over the Internet. For a long time it was also broadcast on open channels on formerly larger broadcasters such as UniTV Hamburg . However, it can also be broadcast on regional television , as in the case of Campus TV of the University of Bayreuth or, like the Uni-TV project of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, on the BR-alpha educational channel of Bavarian Broadcasting . Advertising in this context is only possible to a limited extent.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, numerous television teaching offices have been established at universities and colleges since 2009 - mostly funded by the State Agency for Media NRW . The program is broadcast on the nationwide television station nrwision and is also distributed on its website.

In Baden-Württemberg, the cable channel HD Campus TV is operated by programs and contributions from the editorial offices of the universities and is broadcast in the KabelBW digital cable network as LFK- licensed special-interest program.

Usually the offer is aimed at the students. Thematic priorities are university policy , life in the student community and education.

In addition to university newspapers / magazines and university radio stations, the stations are an important articulation organ for the student body. Due to the success of internet portals such as YouTube and MySpace , university television has developed more and more into the leading medium for university policy in recent years.

In the USA, university television and radio stations can look back on a long tradition. While the stations in Germany have only appeared since the 1990s, the first stations overseas have been around since the mid-1970s.

The first university internet television station in Europe started in 1998 with orgaTV at the chair for business administration at Saarland University in Saarbrücken.
