The SP-ZAO Unison (Belarusian: СП ЗАТ Юнісон ) is an automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturer based in Abtschak . The company was founded in 2003 as a joint venture of the automotive supplier Fenox Lada with the participation of the Belarusian government. Unison sees itself as a successor to the Ford Union . In addition, Unison is also active as a body construction company for special vehicles. The specialization is on ambulances and minibuses for taxi use . The maximum annual capacity of the plant is 100,000 vehicles.
Company history
From 2003, Unison built the first model of the Intrall Lublin 3Mi under license as a panel van. But because of the more than poor parts supply from Intrall Polska from Lublin , they looked around for further partners. With this endeavor, negotiations with the Indian automobile giant Tata Motors came about in the spring of 2004 . So too was finally Tata Telcoline in Obchuk mounted for the European markets.
Since 2005, Iran Khodro has also held a 40 percent stake in the Belarusian automobile manufacturer. State participation fell to 26 percent. SKD production of the IKCO Samand LX and IKCO Samand TU5 models started on August 11th . The Iranian models are sold in Eastern Europe, Turkey and the Russian Federation by local importers. Obchuk is the only Samand plant in the world where the TU5 engine is installed.
General Motors first started negotiations with Unison in 2007 . One of the main incentives for this was the newly adopted tariff elimination for vehicles built in Belarus to Russia. The negotiations provided for the assembly of the Chevrolet Lanos Hatch for the Russian market. The Ukrainian car manufacturer ZAZ was responsible for supplying the necessary vehicle parts .
After assembly of the Lublin and Telcoline had been discontinued in the course of 2007, the focus in the commercial vehicle sector was on the construction of special vehicles. The basis was the Russian GAZelle and the French Renault Master X70 . In 2009, two more models based on the Ford Transit Connect and the Ford Transit were added.
After a successful start, Iran Khodro decided to increase the capacity of the plant from 60,000 units to 100,000 units per year. The participation sometimes increased to 49 percent. Enclosed, the production of body and other vehicle parts started in a newly built factory hall. This enabled the local production of the new IKCO Runna and the IKCO Soren ELX .
On behalf of the South Korean Kia Motors , Unison has been building the Kia K2500 Unicom with various bodies since 2011 . Since the end of production of the Master, Unison has been looking for a comparable model. In 2012, a one-off production based on the Peugeot Boxer was created . In a second attempt you want to revive the old Ford Transit. This time, however, the platform should correspond to that of the Fiat Ducato . Series production has been announced for 2013.
The Chevrolet Cobalt and the Zotye Z300, intended as the successor to the Lanos, went into production more quickly . The Opel Corsa followed in February, although the launch was initially announced for 2014.
future plans
Negotiations are currently underway between PSA Peugeot Citroën and the Belarusian government. The French group plans to move all or part of Sevel production to Belarus. In the course of this, the government agreed to renovate an empty factory hall that was once owned by the ZIL . If the contracts are successfully concluded, the Minsk plant will be transferred to Unison.
