The United States Army Materiel Command ( AMC , German "Army Command for Equipment") is one of three Army commands and a Major Command of the US Army . It is responsible for the procurement, provision, needs analysis and development of all conventional weapons, ammunition, technology and equipment of the Army and serves as the central management and coordination point for all questions of logistical support within the armed forces .
The motto of the command is America's Arsenal for the Brave (Eng. "America's arsenal for the brave"). The headquarters of the AMC is in Redstone Arsenal in Alabama , where it was set up, meanwhile the headquarters were in Fort Belvoir in the US state of Virginia .
It is planned from 2019 the United States Army Materiel Command, together with the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the United States Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) and the United States Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) to United States Unite Army Futures Command (AFC).
history
The AMC was set up on May 8, 1962 and initially took over its function as the main operational command of the Army on August 1 of the same year. The first commander was Lieutenant General Frank S. Besson, Jr., who carried out the incorporation of the research department of the Department of the Army into the new command, which originally suggested the establishment of a Materiel Development and Logistics Command (dt. "Material Development and Logistics Command") would have.
