The Roman Catholic pilgrimage church of Our Lady is located on Kalvarienberg in the Oberlind district of the Upper Palatinate town of Vohenstrauß .

history

A chapel at this location is mentioned on August 8, 1716; At that time, the Regensburg cathedral chapter allowed the parish provisional von Vohenstrauss to “ benedictate ” a chapel on the Calvary , that is to say to inaugurate it. Votive masses were subsequently held here by the Capuchins von Vohenstrauß . Pilgrimages soon developed from this to the image of the Sorrowful Mother of God displayed in the chapel , so that the old chapel was no longer able to cope with the onslaught of pilgrims. As a result, the responsible was nurse of the Office Tännesberg - Treswirtz , Franz Christoph Reisner of Lichtenstein , initiated by the Vohenstraußer Pfarrprovisor Father Benedictus, on 21 June 1736 with the Government in Amberg to apply for an extension of the chapel. The Palatinate-Neuburg government had reservations, however, because on the one hand the owner of the property on which the chapel stood was a subject of the Counts of Sulzbach and on the other hand the expansion plans, which would add an extension to the old chapel, consisting of three ovals, did not appeal , provided. After a settlement with the landowner and a change in the building plans, permission to build was given on May 22, 1737.

building

Due to this prehistory, a square church room was added to the existing chapel, which became the presbytery . In the church there is still a holy water kettle with the year 1734, which comes from the old chapel. However, as early as 1775 a new building was made using old components (a stone base of a pillar in the church shows the number 1776). This new building is the church that still exists today. In 1903 a grotto was built on the south side, which commemorates the apparition of the Mother of God in Lourdes . The grotto was consecrated by Father Marian, prior of the Augustinian monastery in Pleystein . The listed hall church is covered with a hipped roof and has a retracted, five-sided closed choir .

On the outside of the church two gravestones are walled in, which remind of Father Basilius from Koppenwald (died 1760) and Father Gratian from Schwandorf (died 1791). There is also a crucifix on the outside of the apse with the Mother of God underneath.

A way of the cross leads to the church . This was built in 1929 by the Frischholz family and consecrated by the Franciscan Father Hardruin from Pfreimd .

Today, on St. Mark's Day , on the penultimate day before Ascension Day and on Ascension Day itself, liturgical processions are held by the Vohenstrauss parish.

A fundamental renovation of the church was carried out by the municipality of Oberlind between 1990 and 1994. The roof was covered with beaver tails , the roof turret with a pointed helmet now has an octagonal shape and was attached to the roof further back. At the end of the renovation work, the “1. Lindta Mountain Festival ”.

Interior

During the last renovation, the church was furnished with altarpieces of Mary and Joseph , a Way of the Cross and an Apostle chandelier from the 18th and 19th centuries, which come from the Church of St. Thomas . There is a remarkable wooden crucifix in color that hangs from the ceiling. Above the entrance to the sacristy there is a gallery , a wooden gallery is also attached to the rear wall of the church.

Bells

The church had two bells that were donated to the chapel by Mrs. von Schwesinger after the great fire of Vohenstrauss in 1763 and built into the roof turret. During the Second World War , these were removed on April 8, 1942 and melted down.
