Route profile

The route of the cycle path is mostly laid out on the former embankment of the Leinefelde – Wulften railway line.

Route

Section from Dingelstädt to Leinefelde

From the center of Dingelstädts it is 1.5 km uphill to the cycle path cross at the Dingelstädt train station, where you can cross the Kanonenbahn cycle path and get to the Unstrut-Leine cycle path to Heiligenstadt . Along the B247 you come to Leinefelde train station via Kalmerode and Bendung. Route length: 11 km

Bodenstein Castle towers over Wintzingerode

Section from Leinefelde to Duderstadt

West of the Leinefelde train station through the old town alleys, it goes north past the cemetery, under the A38 to Breitenbach and on to the old half-timbered ensemble of Worbis. Past the Bear Park in the northwest of Worbis, it goes into the Hahletal to Wintzingerode - here the old railway embankment was built over with the B247. A complicated route takes you to the other side and back on the asphalt embankment to Ferna, past the old brick factory, after Teistungen to the former inner-German border. Here you will find the Grenzlandmuseum and an imposing observation tower. Continue through Gerblingerode to Duderstadt with numerous old town houses in the medieval townscape. Route length: 24 km

History and future

After the railway line from Wulften to Leinefelde, which was in operation from 1889 to 1897, was gradually shut down between 1996 and 2001 and largely dismantled by 2005, the construction of cycle paths could begin and the first section opened in 2005.

The Unstrut-Hahle-Radweg forms the basis for the planned Leine-Rhume-Hahle-Rad (round) away. The well-developed Leine-Heide cycle path is to be included in the planning . From Leinefelde, where the Leine rises, to Northeim it is well developed and signposted. The Rhume adventure trail is to be built into the project from Northeim.
