history

A walled churchyard and existing church with a fortified chapel and fortified tower was documented in 1387. In 1389 they wrote about a fortified church . In the Peasants' War of 1525, under the influence of the ruling noble family von Wintzingerode, there were no uprisings of the peasants, because they supported each other.

The inhabitants of the area around the village of Wintzingerode remained true to the Protestant faith during the Counter-Reformation , although Barthold von Wintzingerode was executed in a sham trial by the Archbishop of Mainz . His successors Bertram Ludolf von Wintzingerode with his descendants, it is thanks to them that in several villages around the Ohmgebirge permeated the evangelical faith is why at the church a grave panel of Bertram Ludolf von Wintzingerode. He died in 1667 and was honored buried in the church vault.

In the Thirty Years War around 1630 the whole village and the church were burned down. The foundation walls of the church and the stone altar were preserved. The church could only be rebuilt in the Baroque style around 1700 . The art objects that still exist from this period come from the noblemen. Among other things, there is the baptismal angel from 1701. The altarpiece with the theme of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from 1600 confuses the viewer. It can be outsourced in threatening times.

Remodeling

There was a major renovation of the church in 1778. This number also shows the tower flag . The tower was completed as it stands today. In 1850 the church received the organ from Carl Heyder .

The cemetery was located at the church until 1857. On May 7, 1857, the first burial took place in the present church.

Another renovation of the church took place in 1928. The masonry made of natural stone was exposed and grouted. The tower flag was given the second year. The barrel vault was newly provided with boards. The big bell was replaced because the old bell had cracked. At the same time, the bells received a new support frame with an iron support. In 1956 the roof could be re-covered. Many other activities were involved in the evangelical community.

Until 25 October 1998, the church received after the early church saints Catherine of Alexandria named Saint Catherine .
