The Untere Rötspitze ( Italian : Spalla di Rosso ) is a 3289 m above sea level. A. high mountain peak of the Umbal ridge in the Venediger group on the state border between Austria and Italy . The first ascent of the Lower Rötspitze on August 1, 1871 the first ascent of the Nordostgrates Rötspitze by Theodor Harpprecht with Joseph Quick . Harpprecht and Schnell probably performed the second ascent of the Rötspitze.
location
The Untere Rötspitze lies on the border between East Tyrol (state of Tyrol ) and South Tyrol and the communities of Prägraten am Großvenediger and Prettau . The Untere Rötspitze is a fallback crest on the long northeast ridge of the Rötspitze. This runs from the Rötspitze over the Untere Rötspitze and the Virgilkopf ( 3036 m above sea level ) to the Vorderen Umbaltörl ( 2926 m above sea level ). To the east of the Untere Rötspitze is the Philipp-Reuter-Hütte in the Umbal Valley , to the west the Lenkjöchlhütte is located between the Windtal and the Röttal. The summit area of the Untere Rötspitze is glaciated. In the west lies the Northern and Middle Rötkees, in the east the Welitzkees. The mountain flanks belonging to the South Tyrolean area are protected in the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park , while those on the East Tyrolean side are in the Hohe Tauern National Park .
Promotion opportunities
The Untere Rötspitze is usually crossed when climbing the Rötspitze via the northeast ridge. To do this, the ascent is first from the Philipp-Reuter-Hütte or the Clarahütte, which is located lower down, to the Vorderen Umbaltörl. As a result, the Virgilkopf is crossed on the northeast ridge ( UIAA II ) and the firn knoll of the Unteren Rötspitze is climbed from a Gratschartl. Alternatively, the Gratschartl can also be reached via moraine slopes from the Philipp-Reuter-Hütte. The ascent from the Lenkjöchlhütte via the western flank ( UIAA I ) is less difficult .
