course

The Lower Querenbach - about 2.4 km to the southwest there is the Upper Querenbach - rises east of Stollberg in the Bürgerwald , just a little below the iron road . In the water-rich headwaters, it joins other, small tributaries. After about 1 km of walking, it is dammed up by the dam, which can hold up to 1.22 million cubic meters and is also called the Querenbachtalsperre after the stream . This serves to supply Stollberg with drinking water and was built between 1949 and 1954. The good quality of the water is due to the fact that the northern edge of the Ore Mountains is interspersed with numerous sloping hollows that are filled with rubble covers that filter the water. As early as after the First World War , numerous wells were built here to supply the city of Oelsnitz . The S-Bächel , formerly the left tributary of the lower Querenbach, still pours into the dam from the left . Behind the about 21 m high dam the brook then flows about 1.4 km to its confluence with the Gablenzbach.
