Unterries (colloquially also Ries ) is a group in the municipality of the Austrian city ​​of Dornbirn , in the state of Vorarlberg . Unterries is a resettlement of Bantling and for a long time was called " Bantling under the giant ".

Originally there were four farms in Unterries according to the original cadastre from 1857, three of which were set back from the main road and thus still show the character of the town at that time. Probably at the end of the 19th century at the junction there is a small one to Unterries HNr. 3 belonging chapel have been built.

Name derivation

Unterries refers the name to the wooden giant , which was used here for a long time to transport the tree trunks from the forests above.

Population and development

Current population figures are no longer published. Today there are about twenty-five residential buildings and a few farm buildings as well as a small chapel in the Rotte.

Unterries can be easily reached by motor vehicle via Bödelestrasse .

Craft, trade

No special handicrafts or commercial operations emerged in Unterries. Agriculture still dominates the area today .

Confluence with the Bantlingergraben

The Bantlingergraben flows through the middle of Unterries. To the north is another, nameless stream that joins the Bantlingergraben just below Unterries.
