Several districts of the city of Dornbirn in Vorarlberg ( Austria ) are summarized by name as Fallenberg . The Fallenberg is divided into Unterfallenberg ( 586 m above sea level ), Stüben ( 667 m above sea level ), Oberfallenberg ( 739 m above sea level ), Grundegg ( 656 m above sea level ) and Gehr ( 720 m above sea level) . Origin of name
The exact origin of the name "Fallenberg" is not certain. The name has been known since 1406 as a strip between the Kehlenbach and the Stiglbach . The name is traced back to all kinds of animal traps that were used here. The name Fallenberg ("Vallaberg") is also mentioned in the Mehrerauer Zinsrodel from around 1340. At that time, 8 Schilling interest had to be paid annually to the monastery "unter den Linden".
Stüben itself is only mentioned as a separate parcel in 1598 and is named after a dusty waterfall of the Kehlenbach.
In the “ Provinzial-Handbuch von Tirol and Vorarlberg for the year 1847 ”. and in the “ Schematism for Tyrol and Vorarlberg ” Unterfallenberg, Stüben and Oberfallenberg are listed as separate hamlets and part of Dornbirn. Grundegg and Gehr are not listed as independent hamlets.
Topography, geography, location and traffic
The "Fallenberg" is actually an outstanding hill between the Kehlenbach and the Stiglbach . The districts of Unterfallenberg, Stüben and Oberfallenberg, about 2 km as the crow flies from the center of Dornbirn, are easily accessible by motor vehicle via Bödelestraße (L 48) and Oberfallenberg is about 1000 m from Rickatschwende and 1200 m as the crow flies from Watzenegg . The Russenbrunnen is fed with water from Unterfallenberg.
Craft, trade
Due to the traffic situation and the late completion of a heavy-duty main road, no special craft or commercial operations emerged on Fallenberg. Agriculture and an inn (Gasthof-Pension Dreiländerblick) still dominate the area today . The lower area of the Fallenberg was also used for (poor quality) viticulture. This is mentioned in several income registers of the Hohenems counts. In Ulrich des Reichen's land register from 1393 and in the addendum from 1396, obligations of the residents of the Fallenberg are listed. In the past, grain was also grown.

In Unterfallenberg there is a small, non-accessible chapel, which is dedicated to Our Lady . The chapel was moved a few years ago and damaged parts were renewed true to the original. The building is jointly maintained and looked after by the residents of Unterfallenberg.
