Rickatschwende ( 855 m above sea level ) is a district of the city of Dornbirn in Vorarlberg ( Austria ) , about 3.2 km as the crow flies from the city center .
history
For centuries, the hamlet was only used moderately for agriculture and forestry. Rickatschwende originally belonged politically and parishly to the Haselstauden district in Dornbirn. For several years now, the place has been politically part of the first Markt district and parishly to the third district, Oberdorf . Rickatschwende was first mentioned in a document in 1431 in a fiefdom tax register.
The hamlet originally consisted of four courtyards, two of which were on the left and two on the right of today's Bödelestrasse. The ones on the left have now been removed. One of the right-hand sides became the spa hotel and the last courtyard is still lonely next to the hotel. There was a small chapel at the edge of the forest. For a while there was a saw together with the Ammenegg district . Even today, a small tributary to the Stiglbach (Haselstauderbach) is known as the "Sägebach".
Origin of name
The first known mention in 1431 is "Ridgart Swendy". Schwenden refers to clearing by burning down trees and bushes in order to gain new usable land. It is not certain whether "Ridgart" was derived from Richard or the woman's name Ridgart. The second component of the name Ridgart, "gart", comes from the Germanic language and means protection (see also the first names Hildegard , Irmgard or Edelgard etc.).
In " Schematismus für Tirol und Vorarlberg " and the " Provinzial-Handbuch von Tirol und Vorarlberg for the year 1847 " this group is listed as an independent hamlet and part of Dornbirn under the name " Rikatschwende ".
Topography, geography, location and traffic
The district, about 3.2 km away from the center of Dornbirn, can be reached by motor vehicle via Bödelestraße (L 48) and is about 1000 m as the crow flies above Oberfallenberg and about 700 m below the Ammenegg district . The plot is between 850 m above sea level. A. and 900 m above sea level A.
There is a separate “Rickatschwende” post bus stop in front of the confluence with the holiday colony or the hotel.
Waters
The Rickatschwende settlement area is bounded by the Stiglbach upwards towards Ammenegg . Down, in the direction of Oberfallenberg from Lumpertobelbach.
Immediately below the spa hotel, on the other side of the L48, rises the only 355 m long "Sägebach", which flows into the Stiglbach at 4,855 kilometers.
Craft, trade
Due to the traffic situation and the late completion of a heavy-duty main road (L 48), no special craft or commercial operations emerged in Rickatschwende. Today the holiday colony and the health center Kurhotel Rickatschwende dominate the hamlet.
Sports
Rickatschwende is across the Langwies near Ammenegg and is a popular starting point for hikes / ski tours to the Bödele in summer and winter .
The health center offers an indoor swimming pool with its own spring water for use as well as snowshoe rental in winter, optionally with guided hikes.
