Lukas Kronig , since 1883 Knight von Kronig (born October 16, 1813 in Untergreuth near Finkenstein am Faaker See , Carinthia ; † June 16, 1888 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian civil servant , mining captain and chairman of the gremial mining authority in Klagenfurt established for the southern Alpine countries .

origin

Lukas Kronig was baptized in the parish of Latschach am Faaker See as the offspring of a wealthy and long-established peasant family , which is already mentioned in a document around 1521 . Since around 1650 the family has been sitting on the Kronig- Hube in Untergreuth No. 12. Lukas Kronig's parents were Johann Kronig, owner of the Kronig-Hube and his wife Maria Gallob vulgo Truppe.

Life

He graduated from high school in Klagenfurt and between 1831 and 1836 completed his philosophical and legal studies at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz with distinction. He then graduated from the Imperial and Royal Mountain and Forest Academy in Schemnitz , Hungary . After a year-long internship at the Eisenerz mine administration, he was accepted into the civil service in 1840. In 1841 at the Oberberggericht and Bergamt Leoben in Styria , he was then transferred to Mies in Bohemia , where he worked for seven years as a mining court assessor. In 1848, after successfully passing the mountain judge examination, he was ordered to Idria in the Duchy of Carniola . After a brief employment with the Mining Authority in Steyr , Upper Austria , he came back to his home country Carinthia and was appointed provisional mining captain in Klagenfurt. During the reorganization of the mining authorities in 1872, he was promoted to the board of the gremial mining authority established for the southern Alpine countries in Klagenfurt and was retired in 1879. His services lay mainly in the promotion of mining and the preservation of mineral treasures in general. A reform of the miners' brethren's shop in the sense of a better position for the workers through a substantial contribution from the mine owners and to provide a secure basis for the lead tariff issue of the Carinthian lead industry were only some of his successfully implemented concerns. He was also always benevolent towards the development of the mountain school in Klagenfurt. At his funeral at St. Ruprecht's cemetery in Klagenfurt, a large number of mourners accompanied his coffin on its last journey.
