background
The National Weather Service has reported exceptionally high rainfall for Sierra Leone , which would have brought above-average rainfall in the days before the natural disaster . From August 11 to 14, it is said to have rained continuously in and around the capital, Freetown. A severe weather warning had not been issued by the Sierra Leonean Meteorological Office .
Due to inadequate sewage systems , poor construction and illegal construction, deforestation and the associated erosion , Sierra Leone is more frequently hit by such disasters.
