Urmel is a German cartoon series that was produced between 1995 and 1997 . It is based on the puppet show Urmel from the ice in the Augsburger Puppenkiste from 1969 , which in turn is based on the children's book Urmel from the ice .

Urmel is a prehistoric dinosaur that was thought to have long been extinct. But one day an iceberg washes up on the beach on the island of Titiwu. In this is an egg from which Urmel hatches. He quickly wins the affection of the other islanders and stands out for his cheeky and enterprising behavior. However, museum director Zwengelmann and zoo director Solmeyer try to capture the extraordinary Urmel. From now on he experiences many adventures, makes many new friends and outwits his enemies again and again.

Production and publication

The series was produced between 1995 and 1997 by Audiovisuel, Ravensburger Film + TV, France Animation and Hahn Film on behalf of WDR and France 3 in Germany. This resulted in a season with 26 episodes.

The series was first broadcast on December 12, 1996 on ARD . Further broadcasts took place on KiKA , rbb , WDR , MDR TV , SWR TV , hr-TV , Fix & Foxi , Junior , BR TV , Anixe , YFE TV and RBB Berlin . The series often ran in shows or broadcast programs such as Käpt'n Blaubär Club ,  Tigerenten Club ,  Ferienfieber . In addition, some episodes have appeared on DVD and VHS and are available via video-on-demand services such as Amazon Video or Kividoo .
