Urs Peter Gruber

Urs Peter Gruber (born July 24, 1970 in Darmstadt ) is a German legal scholar , judge and university professor .

Life

After graduating from high school in Darmstadt, Gruber studied law at the universities of Frankfurt am Main , Toledo and Mainz from 1990 . The legal state exams followed in 1995 ( first state examination ) and 1998 ( second state examination ). He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Mainz with Klaus Müller and Peter Huber . His doctorate as Dr. iur. at Müller at the University of Mainz, took place in 1999 with the thesis International Insurance Contract Law . In the same year Gruber worked for the law firm Dr. Paul Müller and colleagues work in Offenburg . In 2002 he completed his habilitation with Müller at the University of Mainz with the thesis Methods of International Uniform Law .

In 2002, Gruber accepted a call to the University of Halle , where he took over the vacant chair for civil law, civil procedure and insolvency law, international private law and comparative law from Stefan Smid in 2003 . From 2007 until his departure in 2009 he was a judge at the Naumburg Higher Regional Court in the 1st civil senate. In 2008 Gruber was also a visiting professor at Bilkent University in Ankara .

After initially rejecting a professorship for civil law, comparative law and procedural law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main in 2008, Gruber accepted a professorship for civil law and civil procedural law at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in 2009 . In 2013 he was a visiting professor at the University of Georgia .

Gruber has been a member of the German Council for International Private Law since 2017. He is also a member of the civil law teachers' association .

Research priorities

Gruber has an extensive research area. In addition to civil procedure law , cost law and the law of arbitration , he deals intensively with insolvency law and international private law .
