Origin is a district of the municipality Elixhausen in the state of Salzburg .
The village is located north of Elixhausen on Mattseer Landesstraße (L101) and is the location of the Federal College for Agriculture Ursprung , which is housed in the Ursprung Castle. The name "Ursprung" is derived from the Middle or Old High German "urspring" or "ursprinc". The use of "original" was similar to that of our "source" today. This name refers to the source of the Mattig , which is located in the Ursprunger Moor , which stretches north from the castle. The original Gut Ursprung was first mentioned in a document in 1122 and at that time was one of the largest properties in northern Flachgau with over 100 hectares. However, a small jug with a buckled handle was also found in its origins, possibly from the Bronze Age and which can be interpreted as an indication of a much earlier settlement.
