Ursula "Uschi" Eid (born May 18, 1949 in Landau in the Palatinate ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

From 1998 to 2005 she was parliamentary state secretary at the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development and the first personal commissioner for Africa for Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder . She has been President of the German Africa Foundation since October 2015 .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Landau in 1969, Ursula Eid completed a degree in household science at the Universities of Hohenheim and Wageningen ( Netherlands ), which she completed with a degree in household science. This was followed by postgraduate studies in Oregon ( USA ). From 1976 to 1985 she worked as a research assistant at the University of Hohenheim . From 1992 to 1994 she worked on behalf of the German Compensation Bank and the Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in Eritrea . In 1993 she received her doctorate as Dr. rer. soc.

Ursula Eid is married.

Since 2009 she has been teaching sustainability in water supply and disposal at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences . The International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) presented her with the Distinguished Associate Award in 2012 for her commitment to worldwide clean drinking water and basic sanitation .

Political party

She has been a member of the Greens since 1980. From 1991 to 1993 she was a member of the Green State Executive in Baden-Württemberg .

MPs

On April 17, 1985, she succeeded in the German Bundestag for the retired MP Marieluise Beck -Oberdorf via the rotation principle prevailing at the time in the Greens . From 1985 to 1987 she was deputy parliamentary director of the Green parliamentary group. Since the Greens failed to pass the five percent hurdle in the 1990 Bundestag election , they left the Bundestag.

From 1994 to 2009 she was again a member of the German Bundestag . From 1994 to 1998 she was deputy chairwoman of the Bundestag Committee for Economic Cooperation and Development and at the same time spokeswoman for development policy for the Greens parliamentary group . From 2005 to 2009 she was the spokesperson for foreign cultural policy. She ran in vain for a promising place on the list for the 2009 Bundestag election, so that she left the Bundestag at the end of the legislative period .

Ursula Eid always entered the Bundestag via the Baden-Württemberg state list .

Public offices

After the Bundestag election in 1998 , she was appointed parliamentary state secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development on October 27, 1998 in the federal government led by Chancellor Gerhard Schröder .

From October 2001, she was also G8 - Africa Envoy of the Federal Chancellor . After the general election in 2005 , she left office on November 22, 2005.

Ursula Eid has been a member of the UN Secretary General's advisory committee on “Water and Basic Sanitation” since 2004 and is its deputy chairwoman.
