Ute Wedemeier

Ute Wedemeier , b. Flämig (born April 10, 1948 in Kleinwörden near Hemmoor ) is a German social politician ( SPD ).

biography

Wedemeier graduated from the Bremen Administrative School and was employed by the University of Bremen from 1971 to 1987 . She has been married to Klaus Wedemeier since 1984 , who was Bremen's Mayor and President of the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen from 1985 to 1995 .

In 1970 she became a member of the SPD and the Young Socialists . From the 1970s to 1987 she was chairwoman of the local SPD association habenhausen and held various positions in the SPD.

Workers welfare

Wedemeier has been associated with the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) for many years.
Since 1993 she was state chairwoman of the AWO in Bremen and from 2000 to 2008 a member of the federal executive board and from 2008 to 2012 a member of the presidium of the AWO federal association. She is also a deputy board member at AWO International. She campaigned for development cooperation and humanitarian aid and gave a lot of impulses and successfully carried out events.

She was a member of the board of trustees of the mother's convalescence work and is committed to the health of families.

Riga help

Wedemeier was co-founder and patron of Children's Aid Riga , which was founded around 1990 ; Riga has been a twin city of Bremen since 1985 . The organization supported Riga in social projects with donations from the Bremen economy and citizens of Bremen, such as building a children's hospital and children's homes. After 2000, the AWO accompanied these relief efforts.
