description
Vegetative characteristics
The dwarf-water hose is a one-year or perennial , herbaceous plant with few, pfriemförmigen rhizoids . It forms a few, barely divided, 0.5 to 1.5 cm long leaves on thin stolons . The up to 20 cm long stolons swim freely in open water or lie on the flooded ground as mats. Compared to Utricularia vulgaris, it forms stalked traps, which are characterized by two dorsally located, richly branched appendages. The traps are egg-shaped with a length of 1 to 2.5 mm.
Generative characteristics
The 1 to 30 cm long, upright, racemose inflorescences with one to six flowers are mostly above, rarely below the water surface. The inflorescence stem usually has one, rarely two or no, about 1 mm long scales at about half the height, similar to a bract. The hermaphrodite flower is zygomorphic and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The egg to circular calyx teeth with a length of 1 to 3 mm wide are almost the same. The five yellow petals, often with reddish brown nerves, are 4 to 25 mm long. The crown is two-lipped. The spur is narrow-conical or cylindrical and slightly shorter to significantly longer than the lower lip of the crown. The capsule fruit is rounded.
distribution
Utricularia gibba grows worldwide in the tropics and subtropics . The distribution area radiates northwards to Canada , Spain , Portugal , Israel , China and Japan , southwards to Argentina , South Africa , Australia and New Zealand .
