description

Vegetative characteristics

Utricularia warburgii is a one to two year, terrestrial plant with a creeping habit. It forms only a few rhizoids of simple construction and a thickness of about 0.1 mm. The stolons, however, are numerous, branched and several centimeters long, with a thickness of about 0.15-0.25 mm. The foliage leaves are numerous and arranged in rosettes at the nodes of the stolons, they are petiolate and the lamina is narrowly obverse to wedge-shaped with a rounded tip. They are up to 1.5 cm long and 1.5 mm wide, they each have only one leaf vein .

The traps are numerous and egg-shaped, sitting on short stems, their size varies between 0.5 and 1.0 mm. The opening is on the side and has a strongly sloping, funnel-shaped and inward-facing collar, the inner surface of the trap is covered with radial rows of short-stemmed glands. The back of the collar (outwards) is drawn out into a long, narrow, oblong-egg-shaped, arched, keeled and blunt "beak", which is covered with short-stemmed glands, covers the trap opening and can be as long as the entire trap apparatus.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence is erect, of simple construction and mostly unbranched, rarely divided in pairs. The 7–10 cm long inflorescence stem is round in cross section, 0.3–0.4 mm thick and hairy glandular. The bracts are fused at their base, oval and about 1.3 mm long. The flowers appear in twos or threes.

The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The sepals are approx. 2 mm long, slightly convex and covered with papillae . The upper blade is broadly ovoid, the lower one is narrowly elongated. The corolla is 6-8 mm long and bluish-purple in color and decorated with a yellow-white throat spot. The upper lip of the flower is indented above its center; the lower lip is elliptical transversely, with clearly visible swellings and a rounded tip. Near its base, the lower lip has distinctive, horn-shaped bulges on the left and right of the lip ridge. The flower spur is awl-shaped and slightly longer than the lower lip.

The seed pods are spherical, their diameter is approx. 1.8 mm. The capsule walls are plump and relatively thick. The seeds are egg-shaped and about 0.25 mm in size.

Distribution and habitat

Utricularia warburgii grows mainly in the districts of Lu-shan , Ningbo and Zhejiang in the province of Jiangxi (江西) in China in sunny locations on swampy, acidic and nutrient-poor wet meadows and on wet rock at altitudes between 800 and 2000 meters. Their habitat is characterized by dense vegetation of sour grasses , rushes and sweet grasses .

Systematics

Utricularia warburgii is assigned to the Nigriscentes section , which also includes the species Utricularia bracteata and Utricularia caerolea . With Utricularia caerolea is utricularia warburgii most closely related.
