Uttel is a district of the city Wittmund of the same district Wittmund in Lower Saxony .

Uttel is located on the northern outskirts of Wittmund and has been part of the city of Wittmund since the municipal territorial reform in 1972. Geographically, Uttel is located on a foothills of the Geest that protrudes east of the town of Wittmund into the marshland . The village of Nenndorf also belongs to Uttel .

history

Early medieval settlements from the 8th century are proven in the neighboring town of Hattersum . There is also evidence of a fortress from the High Middle Ages in Uttel. As early as 1804, the place was recorded on a map with its current spelling. Uttel also takes into account the network of paths around 1800 with a side path that branches off from the main Wittmund- Esens path . Uttel is not a typical East Frisian church village , so there is also no place of worship .

On August 16, 1972, Uttel was incorporated into the district town of Wittmund. Today the place has a mayor .
