Uwe Jens Jensen (born June 3, 1941 in Hamburg ; † May 25, 1997 in Vienna ) was a German dramaturge , theater director and author .

Live and act

Jensen studied literature, history and theater studies in Hamburg, Tübingen and Vienna. In 1967 he finished his studies with a doctorate .

From 1967 he was a dramaturge in Cologne , Tübingen and Oberhausen . From 1972 to 1979 he held the same position at the Stuttgart State Theater , where he had also been co-director and director from 1974. From 1979 to 1986 he worked at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and from 1986 to 1989 at the Burgtheater in Vienna .

Jensen staged his own pieces in the form of a revue, mostly in collaboration with the musician Hansgeorg Koch . These works included Elvis Presley Memorial (first performance 1977, Stuttgart), Unser Republik (first performance 1980, Bochum), John Lennon (first performance 1986, Bochum), Elvis and John (first performance 1987, Burgtheater Vienna) and Tana in New York (first performance 1990 , Bochum).

Other directorial work included The German Lunch Table by Thomas Bernhard (world premiere 1982, Bochum), Winterreise (1985, Bochum), From today you are called Sara by Detlef Michel and Volker Ludwig (world premiere in 1989, Berlin), MauerStücke by Manfred Karge (German premiere 1989, Bochum), Die Weber (1992, Mysore ) and The Threepenny Opera (1993, Turku ).

Jensen also wrote two children's books and children's plays, and he translated several plays by William Shakespeare .

He was buried at the Grinzinger Friedhof (group 1B, number 99) in Vienna.
