Uwe Lohrer

Uwe Lohrer (born November 19, 1940 in Stuttgart ) is a graphic designer and university professor for visual communication .

life and work

Uwe Lohrer studied from 1961 to 1965 at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Professors Eugen Funk and Kurt Weidemann . He worked as a graphic designer and art director for the Swiss typographer and designer Albert Hollenstein in Paris and the Lyon artist Jean-Marie Chourgnoz. In 1971 he set up his own studio and in 1978 became professor of visual communication at the Pforzheim University , where he set up the focus on exhibition design. Lohrer develops graphic design concepts for museums and exhibitions and designs art and design catalogs. His posters for the cultural sector are in public collections, including the German Poster Museum in Essen and the New York Museum of Modern Art, and have been exhibited at international poster biennials in Warsaw and Lahti. He has received several awards from the Book Art Foundation (The Most Beautiful Books) . “In his art exhibition posters he lets the artist go first, does not push himself between the artist and the viewer [...] The execution is natural, relaxed, fresh and imaginative. His special relationship to the fine arts opens up unprejudiced, style- breaking solutions for him, ” writes Lohrer's former mentor Kurt Weidemann about his work.

Uwe Lohrer was friends with the Swiss artist Dieter Roth . Lohrer lives in Stuttgart.
