Uwe Schummer (born November 14, 1957 in Adelaide , Australia ) is a German politician ( CDU ) from Willich . Since 2018 he has been the chairman of the workers' group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

Life and work

After completing secondary school in 1974, Schummer completed an apprenticeship as a merchant in wholesale and foreign trade and then did his military service at the sports promotion company in Warendorf from 1979 to 1980 . From 1978 to 1983 he took part in the German Athletics Championships in the 400-meter run and was a member of the Olympic B squad of the German Athletics Association . After his military service, Schummer worked as a commercial clerk at Stadtwerke Willich from 1980 until 1983 as a youth education officer for the Catholic workers' movement(KAB) changed. From 1987 to 1989 he headed the office of the then Federal Labor Minister Norbert Blüm (CDU) and in 1989 became press spokesman for the CDA in Germany. Schummer from 1996 to 2002 Managing the CDA and from 1998 editor of the magazine published by the CDA Social Order . He has been on the advisory board of action medeor in Tönisvorst since 2004 . As an employee representative, Schummer was a member of the supervisory board of RWE Power AG from 2010 to 2016 . He is a member of IG Metall . On November 8, 2014, Uwe Schummer was elected regional chairman of Lebenshilfe NRW. From 2014 to 2018 he was the representative of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group for people with disabilities. Since 2018 he has been chairman of the workers' group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group.

Schummer joined the CDU in 1973. From 2003 to 2017 he was chairman of the CDU Willich. After 14 years he passed the party chairmanship to Christian Paksuch. He is a full-time and honorary member of the Christian Democratic Workforce in Germany (CDA). From 1987 to 1989 he was federal chairman of the CDA youth organization Young Workers. From 1996 to 2002 he was managing director of the CDA. Between 2001 and 2013, Schummer was chairman of the CDA district association Niederrhein and was a member of the CDA federal executive committee from 2003 to 2013.

Schummer has been deputy chairman of the CDU district association Viersen since 2003 .

Schummer has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002 . Since 2005 he has been one of the deputy chairmen of the employee group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and chairman since 2018. He is a member of the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment , in which he was chairman of his parliamentary group from 2009 to 2014.

Schummer has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Viersen constituency :
