Víctor Muñoz Manrique (born March 15, 1957 in Saragossa , Spain ) is a Spanish football coach and former football player . Most recently he was under contract with the Swiss super league club FC Sion .
Career
Víctor Muñoz began his professional career as a football player in 1976 in his hometown, with the local club Real Saragossa . In 1981 he moved to FC Barcelona where he was under contract for seven years. In 1988 he moved to Italy to Sampdoria and was one of the first Spaniards in the Serie A changed. In 1990 Muñoz finally returned to Real Zaragoza before retiring in 1991 at FC St. Mirren in Scotland.
With the Spanish national team , Muñoz, who played in midfield, took part in the 1980 Olympic Games , the 1982 World Cup in Spain and 1986 in Mexico, and the European Championships in 1984 in France and 1988 in Germany . Muñoz came to the national team on 60 missions and scored three goals.
In 1995, Muñoz took over a coaching position for the first time and signed a two-year contract with RCD Mallorca . In the following years he coached the teams CD Logroñés , UE Lleida and Villarreal FC before moving to Real Saragossa in 2004 . With Saragossa Muñoz won the first title of his coaching career and stayed there until 2006. From October 2006 to May 2007 he was under contract with the Greek club Panathinaikos Athens and reached the final of the Greek club cup with the club . From 2007 Muñoz coached the Spanish first division club Recreativo Huelva . On February 4, 2008 he was dismissed after his team lost 2-1 at home to Sevilla FC . For the 2008/09 season he was the coach of Getafe FC . From September 2011 he coached the Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax . His engagement there ended in January 2012 after Xamax's license was revoked and the club filed for bankruptcy a little later. From the beginning of the second half of the season in January 2013, he headed FC Sion, but was dismissed as coach after three rounds, but not dismissed because his successor, the player- coach Gennaro Gattuso , lacks the necessary license. He was the fourth coach of the current 2012/13 season at the Valais football club. From March to November 2014 he briefly appeared again as the coach of his home club Real Saragossa before he was on leave and replaced by Ranko Popović .
