A voiture de banlieue à deux niveaux ( German : local traffic car with two storeys , local double-deck car ), also abbreviated as VB 2N , is a railroad car that is used as a push-pull train . With six, seven or eight cars, these trains are used as Transilien .
description
From the outside, these vehicles look similar to the VO 2N . The VB 2N are push-pull trains and are hauled by locomotives of the BB 17000 or BB 27300 series. The push-pull trains are used on the routes from Saint-Lazare to Mantes-la-Jolie and Ermont - Eaubonne and from Paris-Nord and Paris-Montparnasse . In the east of Paris the VB 2N drove from the Gare de l'Est to Tournan and Meaux before the RER E went into operation.
The VB 2N are push-pull trains with the BB 27300 series from Paris-Montparnasse to Rambouillet , Mantes-la-Jolie and Dreux .
Since the end of 2006, the renovated trains in the Transilien livery have been running exclusively from Paris-Montparnasse and Paris-Saint-Lazare with the BB 27300 series . In contrast, the VB 2N from Paris-Nord are only pulled by locomotives of the BB 17000 series .
Each car is 24.28 meters long and weighs 48 tons when empty. Since 1995 the vehicles have been equipped with the system équipement à agent seul (EAS) ( German one-man operation ).
The problem with driving noises inside and outside the vehicle has gotten worse over time, there are more than 90 decibels when a train passes by at 70/80 km / h.
Due to the retirement of the Z 5300 on the RER C in 2003, it was necessary to extend the Z 5600 to six cars, originally there were four. As a result, VB-2N cars were converted into ZR 2N and added to the Z 5600 .
Originally, the VB 2N was delivered in a gray paint scheme with yellow stripes on the lower edge of the vehicle. Then a blue-white-red paint, the so-called “Île-de-France”, was introduced, later the so-called “ Transilien ” paintwork from 2003. It consists of a blue with a white stripe and colored circles on the doors. The Transilien paint job meant that the interior of the car had to be completely rebuilt, including an air conditioning system.

The VB 2N departed from all Paris train stations, with the exception of Paris-Austerlitz.
Transilien Paris Saint-Lazare
From Saint-Lazare , take the VB 2N:
- on Group IV tracks (Saint-Lazare to Ermont - Eaubonne);
- on Group V tracks (Saint-Lazare to Mantes via Poissy);
- on the tracks of Group VI (Saint-Lazare to Mantes via Conflans).
These trains have been running with the BB 27325 to 67 locomotives since the end of 2007 and replace the BB 17000 . Since the BB 27300 has been used, the trains have been shortened from seven to six cars because these locomotives are longer.
The trains were renewed in Rennes ; among other things, they got the Transilien paintwork. From Saint-Lazare, VB 2N only operate in the colors of Transilien.
The VB 2N have had a passenger information system since they were renewed.
Transilien Paris-Montparnasse
From Montparnasse, the wagons are used on the routes to Rambouillet , Dreux and Mantes-la-Jolie . These cars run as push-pull trains with the BB 27300 series .
The BB 8500 locomotives are no longer used with VB-2N wagons on the Montparnasse – Rambouillet route, as they haul the VO 2N with 7 wagons on the Paris-Montparnasse - Chartres - Le Mans route .
The VB 2N have a passenger information system. From October 2011 onwards, further VB 2N trains came from Paris-Nord in order to be able to retire the Z 5300 . These trains run with locomotives of the BB 7600 series (converted BB 7200 ).
Transilien Paris-Nord (until the end of 2012)
Until the end of 2012, these cars drove on the routes: Paris-Nord - Pontoise , Paris-Nord - Ermont - Eaubonne - Persan - Beaumont , Paris-Nord - Luzarches , Paris-Nord - Montsoult - Maffliers - Persan - Beaumont and Pontoise - Creil .
The trains ran with locomotives of the BB 17000 series . The numbering of the cars began with N01. By the end of 2012, the VB 2N, which operated on lines H and K, were transferred to line N ( Transilien Paris-Montparnasse ).
Modelling
The VB-2N cars are available in all liveries in Microsoft Train Simulator .
The cars were built in H0 by Jouef from 1976 to 1988, later by the Italian brand Vitrains.
