history

The company, which is run in the form of a state-owned company (VEB), was created on January 1, 1964 through the amalgamation of the state-owned companies Tonmechanik Berlin , Berliner Mode and the television department of VEB Meßelektronik Berlin . In 1980 the company became part of the communications electronics combine .

The main plant was located at Rungestrasse 25-27 in Berlin-Mitte . The drive part 2 (mechanical prefabrication) and a cable-manufacturing plant were in Hönow in Berlin.

STT main building

In the first few years, the production profile consisted of recording studio technology , television studio technology and applied television technology . Since 1968 the company has specialized exclusively in applied television (industrial television and X-ray television technology for medicine). Until 1964, tube technology was used for production, and transistor technology based on circuit boards was introduced in 1965 . From 1976 microelectronics up to SMD technology was introduced step by step .

It was produced according to the specifications of the State Planning Commission and the national economic plans derived from the five-year plans. For their implementation, the so-called plan discussion was carried out in advance , in which the individual collective goals and key figures were set for fulfillment.

In addition to domestic production, STT products were exported to the USSR , People's Republic of Poland , People's Republic of Bulgaria , ČSSR , SFR Yugoslavia , Mongolian People's Republic , Republic of Cuba , North Korea , People's Republic of Romania , Hungary , Federal Republic of Germany , Ecuador , Benin and Iraq . With the introduction of the Economic and Monetary Union in 1990, the company lost most of its sales market. In addition, there were inheritance rights to the building in Rungestrasse, so that only a small part of the business (privatized as a GmbH) could exist at a different location.

VEB Studiotechnik Berlin is not to be confused with studio technology radio or studio technology television , which were subordinate to Deutsche Post .

structure

Around 600 people were employed in the company. At the highest level was the operations director (L), including the specialist directors (e.g. F, E, T, W, M, A, P), followed by the department heads (e.g. FV, FG, TV) , including the foremen and group leaders (e.g. TVR, FGE, ATCO). As was customary in state-owned companies, there was a works party organization of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany with a full-time party secretary, an FDJ group, a works union management (BGL) with full-time chairman, a combat group , a civil defense platoon , a DRK organization and a DSF - Group.
