The VIA Nano is a microprocessor from VIA Technologies . The architecture on which it is based was announced in 2004 and unveiled on January 28, 2008. The Via Nano processor was presented to the public on May 29, 2008 and has been available to OEMs ever since ; Before its release, the processor was known by the code names Isaiah and CN . The first systems were expected in the third quarter of 2008. The first prototypes of the Trinity platform on which the Nano is to be installed were shown at Computex in 2008.
technology
The Isaiah architecture of the Nano has been completely redeveloped by VIA's subsidiary Centaur Technology . The goal was to significantly exceed the computing power of the C7 while keeping the power consumption as low as possible. In order to make it easier for hardware manufacturers to switch from VIA C7 to VIA Nano, the new processor is pin- compatible with the old 479-pin infrastructure .
Due to a lack of licenses, VIA continues to use its own VIA V4 bus protocol, and not Intel's AGTL +. VIA's Nano is therefore not compatible with Intel's Socket 479 hardware (chipsets, mainboards, laptops, etc.). VIA Nano CPUs are always directly soldered on, so there is no socket and they cannot be replaced.

Benchmarks
The VIA Nano sometimes does significantly more than Intel Atoms of the first generation (e.g. the Intel Atom Z 520). However, current Atom processors (e.g. Intel Atom C3538) have three times the single-core performance and about twelve times the multi-core performance of this original atom.

The VIA Nano sometimes does significantly more than the Intel Atom . A nano-processor with the same clock speed can set itself apart from the Atom processor, but also from an Intel Celeron M , especially in arithmetic-logical calculations . When it comes to floating point calculations , however, the Celeron M is significantly faster, while the Isaiah is just ahead of the Intel Atom. Compared to the VIA C7 , the performance of the Nano has improved by a factor of 2.5 in both the ALU and the FPU . Thus the development goal of a higher performance compared to the C7 has been achieved.
future
For the end of 2009 VIA aimed to change the structure width from 65 nm to 45 nm. With the new manufacturing process, a dual-core variant of the Nano is also to appear. Furthermore, higher FSB frequencies will be possible in the future, as the switch to a different base is planned.
Market position
Due to delivery problems with Intel's Atom processor, some manufacturers switched to the C7 as well as the Nano processor and built them into their products. Another advantage for VIA is that the Nano sometimes works faster than Intel's Atom with comparable power consumption.
