history

Early history

The area of the Vaihinger Hof was already settled by the Celts . Evidence of this time is a Viereckschanze 900 m west of the place, which is also known as Heidenstädtle. A row grave field on the southern edge of the village indicates a settlement by the Alemanni .

middle Ages

The first documentary mention is made around 1660 in the document book of the Rottenmünster monastery : in 1262 the knights Albert and Volkard von Suntheim donated their court to Voingen to the Rottenmünster monastery. In 1585 the place was first referred to as Vaihinger Hof. Over the years, the monastery acquired the place piece by piece until it owned the entire village in 1632 and converted it into a self-managed estate. The historic sheep house was built around 1700. More than 500 sheep were housed in it during cold winters. In 1802 the Rottenmünster monastery was secularized and the Vaihinger Hof was leased as a state domain.

Modern times

In 1830 the Neukirch community bought the estate for 50,000 guilders . This cleared the way to repopulate the Vaihinger Hof. The Sebastian Chapel was built in 1888. The church has 80 seats and was financed by donations from the surrounding communities. The church bell comes from the community of Bildechingen and dates from the 15th century. In 1971 Neukirch was incorporated into Rottweil as part of the community reform. In the 1970s the old sheep house was so desolate that it was threatened with demolition. A solution for the building was sought based on a signature campaign. The Arbeiterwohlfahrt took over the sheepfold on hereditary lease and converted it into a handicapped-accessible youth leisure center. The costs of three million DM were mainly provided by the Freiburg Monument Authority and the city of Rottweil.
