Valentin Bodo von der Osten (born November 29, 1699 in Pomerania; † November 23, 1757 in Breslau ) was a Prussian colonel , chief of the first field artillery battalion and Lord of Sellin.

Life

His parents were the heir of Natelfitz in the Regenwalde district, Philipp Joachim von der Osten (1630–1708) and his wife Dorothea Juliane, born von Boehn († after 1702). His brother Andreas Friedrich von der Osten (1686–1755) was an Imperial Russian major general .

East came to the cadets in Kolberg . From there he was transferred to the artillery in 1717 . On March 1, 1721, he became second lieutenant and was promoted to captain until 1736 . In 1738 he and Lieutenant Moller were allowed to join the Imperial Army as a volunteer in the fight against the Turks.

In 1741, Osten became major in the First Silesian War . After the successful siege of Prague he received a bonus of 500 thalers. During the war he was also wounded in the Battle of Thrush . Then in 1750 he rose to lieutenant colonel and on September 8, 1754 to colonel. During the Seven Years' War , Osten was seriously wounded in the Battle of Breslau in 1757 and died of his injuries on November 23, 1757.

Osten was married to Dorothea Philippina von Linger (* 1703; † June 24, 1756), a daughter of General von Linger . The marriage was probably without offspring.
