Valerius Dejaco (also Valerio ; born March 11, 1914 in Pergine Valsugana ; † July 2, 1983 ) was a South Tyrolean politician.

biography

Dejaco grew up in a family of doctors who originally came from Ladinia and finally settled in Brixen after staying in Trentino and North Tyrol . He finished his studies as Dr. phil. He opted for Germany and took as a soldier of the Wehrmacht at the World War II in part. After his return he worked as a teacher and ran an antique shop with his sister.

In 1952 Dejaco was elected as the candidate of the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP) for the first democratically elected mayor of Bressanone in the post-war period. In 1956, after a conflict-ridden election campaign, also supported by party chairman Toni Ebner and the daily newspaper Dolomiten , he was able to prevail again against Natale Dander, who had already temporarily held the mayor's office from 1948. Dejaco, who was also involved in the municipal consortium of the province of Bolzano (among other things as president), remained in office until 1968, when he was able to win a mandate for the regional council of Trentino-South Tyrol and thus a seat in the South Tyrolean parliament . From 1968 to 1970 Dejaco served as Vice President of the Regional Council, then until 1974 as Deputy Assessor in the regional government . From 1968 to 1973 he acted as parliamentary spokesman for his party in the state parliament. After his mandates expired, he withdrew from political life.
