Valter Župan

Valter Župan (born August 10, 1938 in Ćunsko on Krk , Yugoslavia , today Croatia ) is emeritus bishop of Krk .

Life

Valter Župan attended the seminaries of Zadar and Pazin . He also completed his theology and philosophy studies in Pazin . He was ordained a priest on July 8, 1962 on the island of Krk .

From 1962 to 1970 he was the parish vicar on the island of Mali Lošinj . From 1970 to 1974 Župan was a pastor and dean on the island of Cres . From 1979 to 1989 he was again on Mali Lošinj as pastor and dean. In 1989 he was appointed Vicar General of Bishop Josip Bozanić in the Diocese of Krk. He provided this service until 1997. After Josip Bozanić's appointment as Archbishop of Zagreb , he was appointed diocesan administrator on October 6, 1997 .

He was appointed Bishop of Krk by Pope John Paul II on January 31, 1998. His predecessor, Archbishop Josip Bozanić, gave him episcopal ordination on March 15 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Rijeka , Anton Tamarut , and the Bishop of Porec , Ivan Milovan .

In the Croatian Bishops' Conference , Valter Župan heads the Council for Family Affairs. He is a member of the Episcopal Commission for Liturgy and a member of the Episcopal Commission for the Pontifical Croatian University of St. Jerome in Rome.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on January 24, 2015.
