history
In the late Roman period (4th and 5th centuries) the bishop of Krk was subordinate to the metropolitan area of Salona , and from the early Middle Ages to the patriarch of Aquileia . In the 15th century Krk was subordinate to the Patriarch of Grado and incorporated into the Venetian state church system.
In 1828 the small dioceses of Rab and Osor were dissolved and their areas were subordinated to the Bishop of Krk.
Until the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council , mass was celebrated in numerous churches in the Old Slavonic rite , that is, not in Latin but in Old Croatian . Significant Croatian-Glagolitic written monuments have been preserved in the diocese . B. the Baška tablet and the Valun tablet .
Bishop Antun Mahnić (1896–1920) promoted the Old Slavic rite and the Glagolitic writing culture .
In 1990 the Diocesan Charity of Krk was founded.
