The Croatian fishing port of Valun is a part of the town of Cres . The place is located in an elongated, north-facing bay in the middle of the island of Cres . Although there is a lot of tourist infrastructure, the place has so far been spared from mass tourism. In German-speaking countries he became known through the television series The Sun Towards .

Originally, the inhabitants of Valun lived in the nearby town of Bućev, which is now deserted. This was created a little further inland as protection from pirates. In today's town of Valun there is a church dedicated to St. Mark , an indication that Valun and the entire island of Cres belonged to Venice's sphere of influence in the Middle Ages . This church houses the so-called Tablet of Valun , with Glagolitic and Latin inscriptions. The text in Latin letters on this board is considered to be the oldest written monument in the Croatian language , along with the Baška board .
