The Van Blanckendaell Park is a zoo in Tuitjenhorn , North Holland . The park, located between Alkmaar and Schagen , houses a zoological collection with around 120 species from all over the world, a windmill , a restaurant with a larger and a smaller playground , a zoo shop in the ticket office and a museum with a permanent exhibition on Dutch history.

history

As a private zoological collection, the animal population was limited to a few species of pheasant and other smaller species of birds and domestic animals. After the population's growing interest, the owner of the Dutch Van Blanckendeall Park Foundation decided to open the site to the public. The park opened its gates for the first time on May 6, 2007, at what is now the eastern end of the park. Due to complaints from the population about the increasing number of visitors who had to pass the site in order to use the entrance to the zoo, the management of the park moved the entrance to the western side of the zoo. In the following years the zoo was expanded and more exotic species followed, such as zebras , white-handed gibbons and pelicans .
