Projects

I am your camera my dear

In the "I am your Camera my Dear" campaign as part of the Schirn Kunsthalle's "Playing the City" project, three bodyguards wearing black suits, dark sunglasses and radio telephones looked for any passerby in downtown Frankfurt, whom they then accompanied until they were noticed, with different reactions occurring: Depending on whether the situation was perceived as threatening or pleasant, the people fled from their protectors or enjoyed the attention they were shown. The questions arose: How much privacy is public and how much public is private? Where and how is the interface between the intimate sphere and public space designed?

Plastic Invader

In the photo series "Plastic Invader" , which was created mainly in Shanghai in the summer of 2012 , Vanja Vukovic looked for traces of a grown and growing city in China. In doing so, she was able to document the urban developments in sometimes extreme dimensions. Increasingly larger and larger areas are being built extremely densely without regard to natural rhythms, neither the residents nor the environment. Nature is being replaced by plastic, by artificially made and built things. There is an invasion of the plastic, the artificial, the non-natural. But nature also places the city erbert back: trees, reeds and Un herb form green islands covered with concrete in the city.

Safe Heaven

In the series "Safe Heaven" from 2010 Vanja Vukovic shows night shots in front of the refugee home in Schöppingen . The nameless refugees are portrayed like ghosts trying to escape the artificially lit room. Vanja Vukovic learned a lot from them and won their trust during her artist-in-residence stay in the artist village of Schöppingen , often talking to the people in the refugee home. Her pictures show the sensitivity of the artist and the person photographed. Matthias Ulrich , the curator of the Schirn Kunsthalle , said of the refugees depicted in the photo series: "Whether they will ever reach safe heaven, however, write a continuation of their story in a new home, is another matter."
