The Varrone ( Lombard Varron ) is an approximately 21 km long tributary of Lake Como in the Italian province of Lecco in the north of Lombardy . It flows through the Val Varrone (Val Varron) and passes through the municipal areas of Introbio , Premana , Casargo , Pagnona , Valvarrone and Dervio .

course

The Varrone arises at about 1710  m slm (meters above sea level) through the confluence of two source streams on the eastern slope of the Pizzo del Dente and below the Pizzo Varrone, which rises a little to the southeast . From here it mostly flows to the northwest. It passes the Rifugio Casera Vecchia di Varrone before crossing a wooded gorge on the northern slope of Pizzo del Dente . Here it briefly forms the municipal boundary between Introbio and Premana, before it runs entirely into Premana. He reaches the alpine settlements of Soglia and Alpe Casarza , where the gorge briefly opens a little.

The gorge is now even narrower and the stream from the Valle di Fraina flows from the right at Mosnico . It passes the village of Premana above the river and takes in the water of the Valle Marcia from the left . Shortly afterwards he reaches the village of Pagnona , where the Varroncello joins from the right . This is followed by the villages of Avano , Tremenico , Introzzo , Sueglio and Vestreno , where it includes the streams from the Valle dei Molini and the Valle dei Molini di Sueglio from the right.

At Dervio he reaches the alluvial cone , which he has pushed far into the lake , on which the village lies. Here the Varrone finally flows into the eastern shore of the upper Lake Como at 197  m slm .
