Ve , sometimes called Vaw , is an Arabic letter found in the expanded Arabic alphabets of most of the Central Asian Turkic languages . The letter is derived from the Arabic letter Waw (و) by adding three points.

Its sound value is a voiced labiodental fricative ( IPA : [v]) in most languages , which does not exist in Arabic . Only in Kazakh does the letter represent a labialized, voiced velar approximant (IPA: [w]), a further letter was created for the v-sound. In Arabic itself, the same sound is occasionally used in loan words with the letter Ve , which is also mentionedڤ transcribed.
