Vendrogno is a fraction of the Italian commune ( comune ) Bellano in the province of Lecco , Lombardy region .

geography

The place is about 20 km north of the provincial capital Lecco and 60 km north of the metropolis of Milan at an altitude of 731  m slm in the Bergamasque Alps . Verdogno was created on a terrace on the southern slopes of Monte Muggio ( 1799  m slm ) on the orographic right side of the valley of the Muggiasca through which the Torrente Pioverna flows, as the lower, narrower part of the Sassina valley is also called. The valley branches off at Bellano on Lake Como in a south-easterly direction and is traversed by the Pioverna along its entire length.

War memorial in the Inesio district

history

A Roman memorial stone discovered in the district of Inesio at the beginning of the 20th century indicates the presence of the Romans in this area. During the war between the Viscontis from Milan and the Republic of Venice for supremacy in northern Italy in the 15th century, the Milanese erected several defense towers here , only traces of which have survived. Between the end of the 18th century until the Second World War, the place was a well-known climatic health resort, also cited in Baedeker .

Vendrogno was an independent municipality until 2019. On January 1, 2020, Vendrogno joined the municipality of Bellano. The communities Camaggiore, Comasira, Inesio, Mornico, Mosnico, Noceno and Sanico belonged to the community. Neighboring communities were Bellano, Casargo , Dervio , Parlasco , Taceno and Valvarrone . The municipality of Vendrogno was part of the mountain community Valsassina, Valvarrone, Val d'Esino Riviera .
