The Venus is for the entrepreneur , Steve Jobs by star designer Philippe Starck designed megayacht . However, Jobs died in October 2011, a year before it was completed - for a total of allegedly over 100 million euros. According to the design philosophy expressed in the products of the Apple company , the yacht has a minimalist design compared to other mega yachts. Also in accordance with the owner's philosophy, the development and construction of the ship was carried out with great discretion and pictures were only published when it was launched . Also so far (November 2017) almost no photos of the interior are available.

Design and construction

The Venus belongs with 78.20 meters in length to the 100 longest yachts in the world. Philippe Starck designed the exterior and interior together with the later owner. De Voogt Naval Architects, a subsidiary of Feadship, which also carried out the construction at its Royal de Vries shipyard, took on the shipbuilding design. Contrary to the construction method commonly used for mega yachts ( hull made of steel, decks and structural fittings made of aluminum), the entire construction made of aluminum was chosen for them. The decks are made of teak. Deck jump and the decks are aligned parallel to the waterline .

Furnishing

The superstructures of the main deck consist of ceiling-high, 23 meter long and 6 mm thick glass walls. The cabin windows on the lower deck are also ceiling-high and also made of special glass. The ship is controlled by seven 27 ” iMacs . The Rolls-Royces- MTU machine system with an output of around 4000 kW ensures a top speed of 22  knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. The yacht has 22 crew members and can accommodate 12 guests.

history

In 2007, Steve Jobs contacted the star designer Philippe Starck to plan a private mega yacht. Jobs was involved in the development and construction of the ship until his death in October 2011. and according to his biographer Walter Isaacson, this was the main task in the last years of his life.

Venus was built under special secrecy at the Dutch shipyard Royal de Vries, which specializes in mega yachts. The launch took place on October 28, 2012 in the presence of the family of Steve Jobs. The yacht was named after the Roman goddess of love .

Shortly after delivery on December 21, 2012, the yacht was chained in Amsterdam , as Philippe Starck demanded two outstanding invoices from Jobs' heirs amounting to 3 million euros of his 9 million euros fee . The seizure was lifted after the dispute was resolved a few days later.

After cruises in the Caribbean, the southern USA and Mexican waters, the yacht was overhauled or retrofitted in 2015 at the Monaco Marine La Ciotat shipyard. Trips in the Mediterranean and the Adriatic followed before it was transferred to Harlingen in the Netherlands for another overhaul in September 2017 . The aim of this measure was, among other things, a regular check of the ship's papers and the upgrading of various systems of the yacht.
