The United Margarine-Werke Nürnberg became known by the name of their margarine Resi and their house library of "fresh Resi".

The Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation lists the building ensemble at Klingenhofstrasse 52 with 50 b, c, 56, 58, 60 in Nuremberg belonging to the former United Margarine Works Nuremberg as a neo-baroque building complex with a company building (four-wing complex with tower), office building and machine house. The buildings of the United Margarine Works were built in 1912 by Georg Richter in the northeast of Nuremberg with baroque forms, for example with the volute gables and irregularly shaped windows in the gable fields. The building ensemble is built similar to a baroque castle and with its characteristic tower has become a landmark of the “ Herrnhütte ” district .

About history

The United Margarine-Werke Nuremberg, formerly Heinrich Lang & Sons, formerly Salb & Wohl, Klingenhofstr. 52, at Nuremberg's northeast train station, originally had Jewish owners (Lang, Wohl).

The two margarine manufacturers Salb & Wohl (founded in 1871) and Heinrich Lang & Sons (founded in 1913) had merged, so that the name "United Margarine Works Nuremberg" was created. In the course of Aryanization in 1939, under pressure from the state, the two Jewish partners left their one-third shares in the United Margarine Works to the non-Jewish shareholders, the Nürnberger Nahrungsmittelwerke and Theodor Wolf GmbH.

In 1972 production was stopped. In 1974 the margarine manufacturer Homann and Loh, Hanover, took over the United Margarinewerke.

The Resi factory buildings are still there and are still known as the Resi site in Nuremberg , even if margarine is no longer produced there today. The industrial complex has been used by discos and bars since 1988. The main building was home to the Resi-Park from 1988 , the Rockfabrik from 1996 and the Resi since 2016 . In the rear office buildings there are several medium-sized craft and service companies, the seminar center and the Grundig Academy branch and the WiSo management academy.

The booklets of the house library of the "fresh resi" were a popular advertising addition for Resi-Schmelz. The target group were mainly young people. Well-known authors were selected for the booklets. These were usually briefly introduced at the beginning, followed by the story. At the end of the booklet there was a cooking or baking recipe. The back was used for Resi-Schmelz advertising in color.

Advertising with model railroad cars

Trix-Modelleisenbahn GmbH & Co. KG, Nuremberg, manufactured a boxcar, white plastic housing, with the inscription "Vereinigte Margarine-Werke Nürnberg". The series of Trix museum cars with motifs from successful Nuremberg companies such as Lyra pencil factory, Herkules, Triumph-Werke, Schöller-Eiskrem reflect a piece of economic history . Trix has been a subsidiary of Märklin Holding since 1997.

Input in everyday language

In Nuremberg colloquial language, the expression: "He is beinander wi a Bäggla Resi without Babier" (He is in a condition like a packet of Resi without paper).
