Title of one of the publisher's first books

The Strüder publishing house was founded as a book printer and newspaper publisher Strüder KG in 1843 by Wilhelm Strüder (born March 31, 1813 in Neuwied , † April 9, 1891 ibid), a trained typesetter and book printer . After his death, his son Philipp (* July 27, 1840 in Neuwied, † June 4, 1906 ibid) and from 1906 the grandson Julius Strüder (born June 11, 1883 in Neuwied, † September 26, 1978 ibid) and his son Rolf Strüder (* July 17, 1909 in Neuwied, † April 25, 1972 in Koblenz ) founded the company and renamed it Strüder'sche Buchdruckerei und Buchhandlung . This was the third newspaper printing company in Neuwied.

The first years

In 1849 the first edition of the Volksblatt für Stadt und Land appears . The first twelve issues are printed in a printing plant in Ahrweiler that Strüder took over . The Ahrweiler and Adenauer Volksblatt is also printed there. In 1850 the two newspapers are merged under the title Volksblatt . The distribution area is the city and the district of Neuwied, the district of Altenkirchen , Andernach , Linz am Rhein , Remagen and the Eifel . On July 2, 1852, the first edition of the Neuwied newspaper appeared . In 1855 Strüder took over the weekly Neuwiedische Zeitung from the publishers Faust and Lichtfers, which had been in existence for 100 years, and in 1856 he was given the publishing rights for the Neuwied Intelligence and Kreisblatt . The Neuwieder newspaper will be subtitled: The Neuwieder news and Neuwied and Ahrweiler Kreisblatt connected .

The new print shop

Since the old premises had become too small, Strüder bought a large piece of land in the city center from the Neuwied soap manufacturer Johann Gottfried Siegert and, in addition to the typesetting and printing, also built the publishing management, sales, advertising department and editorial office. Son Philipp took over the company under the name Strüdersche Buchdruckerei und Buchhandlung on September 8, 1882, which he ran from 1887 together with his brother Wilhelm, who founded the Neuwied envelope factory Willy Strüder in 1889 . The appearance of the newspaper will be modernized and it will appear twice a day at times.

In 1906, Philipp Strüder's son Julius became an authorized representative and from April 1906 they jointly ran the company. In addition to the daily newspaper, a home page is published that reports on local history and the regional past. An illustrated entertainment sheet is enclosed with the daily newspaper once a week. In 1919, Philipp Strüder withdrew from everyday business. During the French occupation the newspaper was banned several times.

In addition to printing the Neuwied Zeitung , which was one of the most important newspapers on the Middle Rhine before the First World War, numerous books were also published. In 1937 the Neuwied newspaper was banned and ceded to the Nationalverlag GmbH Koblenz . From April 1937 Julius Strüder and the two authorized signatories Dr. Rolf Strüder and Hermann Remy continued as Strüdersche Buchdruckerei and Verlaganstalt . Since the printing company for the Nazi paper failed due to a major fire in Fort Asterstein / Koblenz, the Neuwied Nationalblatt was printed by Strüder from November 1944 .

Reconstruction and end

After 1945 the Strüder KG was rebuilt and many local history publications were printed. The company was expanded further together with his son Rolf Strüder. From 1950 a newspaper was printed again, the Generalanzeiger für Neuwied and the surrounding area . This edition was produced by the General-Anzeiger (Bonn) . From September 1, 1956, the Koblenzer Rhein-Zeitung and the Neuwied Zeitung appeared together under the title Rhein-Zeitung, Independent West German State Newspaper . The local editorial office for the Neuwied district remained in the Neuwied newspaper's offices. In 1958 the company was converted into a limited liability company , then on June 1, 1972 into a GmbH and dissolved on April 19, 1973.
