Veronika Mittermair

Veronika Mittermair (born May 3, 1963 in Bruneck ; † August 5, 2003 in Saigon ) was a South Tyrolean historian .

Mittermair came from Mühlen in Taufers and did her Matura in 1982 at the training institute for commercial professions in Bruneck . In the winter semester 1982/83 she began studying history and art history at the University of Innsbruck . There she did her doctorate with Rolf Steininger at the Institute for Contemporary History from 1985 to 1989 on the subject of »Great Britain and Italy. British policy on Italy 1945–1949 «to the Dr. phil. After her university studies, she worked as a language teacher and freelance historian in Innsbruck, Venice, Genoa, Rome and Dublin and most recently in Mühlen in Taufers. Until her accidental death in Vietnam , she developed a research activity in contemporary history . She devoted herself above all to the history of fascism and National Socialism with regard to the South Tyrol question , the Italianization policy and regional resistance . Mittermair was a member of the South Tyrolean historical working group History and Region / Storia e regione .
