Promise me! ( Serbian : Завет / Zavet) is a film by Emir Kusturica from the year 2007 . The film premiered at the 60th Cannes International Film Festival .
action
The old man Živojin Marković, who lives in a remote village in the Zlatibor region, prays for his grandson Cane (pronounced: Tsane) that he will go into town, sell his cow there and bring a wife with him. In town he is supposed to meet his grandfather's stepbrother, but he is dead. Instead, he meets his two grandchildren, two petty criminals. Cane falls in love with Jasna, whom he wants to marry true to his grandfather's will (he is also supposed to bring an icon and a souvenir with him, which he should buy from the proceeds of the cow he has sold). He becomes involved in this woman's family affairs and saves her and her mother from prostitution and gangsters led by Bajo. These people return to the small village to celebrate the wedding of Živojin, resulting in a double wedding.
Trivia
In the film, the Cane and Jasna see in their living room on TV, is Taxi Driver by Martin Scorsese .
criticism
The lexicon of international films judged that the film had no “recognizable cinematic structure” and that the “development of the characters” was not comprehensible. “First and foremost” “perplexity” is caused, even if this “collection of anecdotes” contains “some successful jokes”.
