Veski (unofficially also Veskimõisa ; German Mühlenhof ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in southeast Estonia . It belongs to the rural municipality of Kanepi ( Kõlleste until 2017 ) in Põlva County .

Population and location

The village has 57 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is 31 kilometers south of the second largest Estonian city of Tartu . The Leevi River (Leevi jõgi) flows through the village .

History and good

The name of the place probably comes from the old water mill that was in operation on the river for the Alt-Wrangelsdorf estate . Veski was first mentioned in a document in 1794 as an independent estate. From 1858 until it was expropriated as part of the Estonian land reform in 1919, it belonged to the noble Baltic German family Andrege .

The manor's origins are believed to date from the end of the 18th century. It was heavily redesigned in the second half of the 19th century. The building was supplemented by a two-storey side building made of red bricks in the style of historicism . In the 20th century, the one-storey old part of the mansion was expanded to include a fully developed attic. Some outbuildings have also been preserved. Today the property is privately owned.
