The VfL Geseke (officially: Verein für Leibesübungen 09 Geseke eV ) was a sports club from Geseke in the Soest district . The first soccer team played for three years in the highest Westphalian amateur league.

history

The association was founded in 1909. The footballers rose in 1934 to the then second-class district class East Westphalia , but had to relegate again after a year. After the direct resurgence, the Gesekers were able to establish themselves in the district class. In 1937, the Geseker narrowly missed the qualification for the Tschammer Cup , the forerunner of the DFB Cup . The decisive game at the Westphalian level was lost to Borussia Dortmund 2-3 after extra time.

In 1948 VfL reached the promotion to the state league , which was then the highest amateur league in Westphalia. The Geseker failed, however, at Sparta Nordhorn . Three years later the team became champions of the Paderborn district class and was promoted to the short-lived 2nd Landesliga Westfalen . VfL promptly dismounted from this third last. In 1953 the Geseker were again district class champions and rose to the state league. The sporting zenith was reached in the 1954/55 season when the Geseker were seventh in the table. A year later , the team missed the qualification for the newly created Verbandsliga Westfalen and only played fourth class. In 1958 VfL went back to the district class.

The promotion to the national league only succeeded in 1976 and the Geseker were there in the following season 1976/77 straight away runner-up behind TSG Harsewinkel . Another runner-up followed three years later, this time behind SC Eintracht Heessen and third places in 1980 and 1988. In 1993 the team was relegated back to the district league, where the Geseker team took third place several times. With Josef Marx , VfL Geseke produced a German national player. In addition, VfL was temporarily coached by Dettmar Cramer , who won the European Champions Cup in 1975 and 1976 with Bayern Munich .

In 2003 VfL Geseke merged with DJK Blau-Weiß Geseke to form SV 03 Geseke . The DJK Blau-Weiß Geseke played in the 1990/91 season and from 1994 to 1997 in the district league.

SV 03 Geseke promptly rose to the regional league, but had to relegate to the regional league again after two years before it went down to the Bürener regional league A in 2010. Two years later, he was promoted back to the district league, which, however, was directly relegated to the Paderborn district league A. After three runners-up championships in four years, the club moved to the Lippstadt soccer district in 2017 and immediately made it to the district league. After only one season, the team was relegated, but made it back to the district league in 2020.
