Victoria Carl (born July 31, 1995 in Zella-Mehlis ) is a German cross-country skier .

Career

Carl, who starts for the SCM Zella-Mehlis , has been taking part in competitions of the Fédération Internationale de Ski since 2010 . Up until the 2014/15 season she competed in junior races in the Alpine Cup. She had her first international success at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Seefeld in Tyrol . There she finished 12th in the sprint and sixth place over 5 km classic. With the biathlon / cross-country skiing mix relay she won gold together with Maximilian Janke , Christian Stiebritz and Franziska Preuß . She ran her first races in the World Cup at the Tour de Ski 2012/13 , which she finished in 69th place in the prologue race and 45th place in the 9 km pursuit race. In January 2013 she won bronze in the relay, silver in the sprint and gold over 5 km freestyle at the Junior World Championships in Liberec . A month later, she won two silver and two gold medals at the 2013 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Brasov . Her first World Cup point came with 30th place in the sprint race at the Tour de Ski 2013/14 in Lenzerheide . In January 2015 she again achieved points in the World Cup in Otepää with 25th place in the sprint. In the same month she started in Oberwiesenthal in the Alpine Cup for the first time and won the sprint. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2015 in Almaty , she won silver in the 10 km skiathlon and the gold medal in the sprint and over 5 km freestyle. Her best placings at the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun were 29th place in the skiathlon and 30 km mass start race and sixth place in the relay. In March 2015 she achieved her first top ten placement in the World Cup with seventh place over 10 km classic in Lahti . At the beginning of the 2015/16 season she started in the Alpencup in Hochfilzen and finished sixth in the 10 km freestyle and 10 km classic. In January 2016 she won her second Alpine Cup victory over 10 km in Planica . In the same month she became German champion in the 16.5 km freestyle and sprint. At the U23 World Ski Championships in 2016 in Râşnov , she won the gold medal over 10 km freestyle and the silver medal over 10 km classic. After finishing 45th in the World Cup mini tour in Lillehammer at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, she achieved her first podium finish in the World Cup with second place in the relay in Ulricehamn . Her best placement at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti was 15th in the skiathlon. At the end of the season, she took 27th place in the World Cup finals in Québec and 56th place in the overall World Cup. In the 2017/18 season she finished 20th in the Ruka Triple and 16th in the World Cup final in Falun. Her best placings at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang were 19th place over 10 km freestyle and sixth place with the relay.

At the beginning of the 2018/19 season, Carl finished 29th in the Lillehammer Triple. In the further course of the season she came eight times in the points and finished 54th place in the overall World Cup. Her best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol were fifth in the sprint and fourth in the relay. In the following season she came in the points 12 times, including 15th place in the Ruka Triple and thus achieved 33rd place in the overall World Cup.
