Vienna ( vaɪˈɛnə ) is a city in the US state of Georgia . It is located in Dooly County and is its county seat . In 2000 it had 2867 inhabitants.

Vienna is located in the south of Dooly County. The neighboring towns are Lily , Pinehurst and Rochelle . The next larger city, Albany , is about 70 kilometers southwest, the capital of Georgia, Atlanta , about 197 kilometers north.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of ​​13.6 km², of which only 0.19% is water.

history

The first recorded name of the city, before the incorporation on February 8, 1854, was Barrien. In 1840 it was renamed Centerville. On February 8, 1841, the county administration decided to name the city after the Austrian capital Vienna ( English Vienna ). The courthouse, built between 1890 and 1892, and Stovall-George-Woodward House are on the National Register of Historic Places .

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Vienna had 2,973 people. The population density was 218.6 people per km ². There were 1180 housing units at an average of 86.8 per km ².
