The Viking Sigyn is a cruise ship of the series Viking Longships of Viking River Cruises . The ship, which was completed in early 2019, will be used for passenger shipping on the Danube .

Ship accident 2019

On May 29, 2019, at around 9:05 p.m. in Budapest , the Viking Sigyn collided with the smaller ship Hableány in front of the Margaret Bridge , which sank immediately afterwards with 35 people on board. Seven people were saved.

After the accident, the Viking Sigyn was seized by the Hungarian authorities and moored at Carl Lutz Rakpart in Budapest. After two days the ship Viking Sigyn was allowed to continue the river cruise towards Passau with another captain .

The from the Ukraine native captain of the Viking Sigyn was charged with "criminal negligence" temporarily in custody taken. On June 13, he was released on bail, subject to conditions and an electronic ankle cuff .
